More Stuff

Totally forgot about my Frequent Smoocher Cards yesterday when I was doign that group shot. Perhaps that's because I hadn't printed them out.  So here is singular of them and another shot of all of my items together.

I didn't take these to print because I didn't want to fight w/ pixeltation and because I don't really have any real life pics in my portfolio thus far. I might add them later on if I can get some consistency w/ other photos going. For now, here is my board that I will be presenting in class.

I got someone to print out some good shirts which I basically sold my soul for. They'll be portfolio ready.

Specialty Items!

Here is a group pic of all of my specialty items. I figured what better place than in the kitchen. unfortunately it's dark and the lighting isn't all that great so I think I'm gonna retake this in the morning before I print it out. Yeah I know I'm printing late but things just haven't been going my way w/ these darn items. Instead of two shirts I'm down to one. *womp womp* But I did my best and I will have professional shirts for the  portfolio. I just will dammit. lol. Everything else turned out just great so I think overall I'm pleased.

Final Touches...

SOOOOOO,

It's getting down to the wire. I've officially taken next week off from both jobs to clear my scedule for any and everything that may go wrong and for portfolio preparation.  I sit here now, needing to go eat, but am glued to Pink Panther (my mac) making changes to any and everything I can so that it's perfect!

Once I perfect everything I'll make some posts about what's going in my portfolio. You know, show a little leg.

Hope everyone isn't going insane like I probably will.

Toodles.

Stickers Part 1

I'm tired so you'll gonly get one version of the stickers tonight. But here's the first one I did. Not married to the swirl in the center but when I did polka dots it looked like a pizza. At least this way it looks kinda like candy, candy = sweets, you get the picture. lol

Shirts!!

Here are the shirt templates. I noticed the link Sean had on his blog to get shirts made and I think I might use them or this screen printing shop I used to work for. The prices seem pretty reasonable.

Pretty cute I think.

Moving Right Along

This week I plan to knock out my specialty Items, like forreal forreal. Shouldn't I be done with those? Yeah, probably. But between 2 jobs, school and that freakin earth day poster that literally knocked me on my ass what's a girl to do. But I have been letting eveything marinate in my mind and here is what I've come up with.

T-Shirts: for the Smooches crew or simply for Smooches Fans. why not? Cami cakes does it and they're so cute.

I want to do two different versions. One with just the Smooches Logo on it and another that says "I 'heart' Smooches" with smooches being the cupcake/chef hat. The shirts will be two different colors just to add a little diversity.

Another thing I thought about was a a box that would have the Smooches logo on it somewhere.  Either that or I will make stickers to place at the closure of the boxes.

Magnets. Because they're cute and I love them.

Frequent Buyer cards: I go to Smoothie King a lot and one thing I notice that they give to their customers are frequent buyer cards so after they make so many purchases they get a product free.  I thought this would be cute for Smooches and good for her loyal customers.  Something like after you buy a certain combination of treats you get a free batch of brownies.

I thought about making a flavors booklet but she has a lot of combinations of flavors and a lot of items and at this point I would have to scale it down to a flavors sheet which might not be as appealing and I'm running out of time.

That is all for now.

Final Earth Day Posters

After about 5 different versions and 3 animal print themed cupcakes later I finally came up with a poster that works.  Thanks to a lil seed planted in my head from Stan I put something together and I'm happy with it.  Of course, there are 2 versions of it just to be on the safe side.  One is a little more detailed than the other. I was soooo frustrated with this assignment I guess because my mind has been stuck on Smooches Sweets items for so long this totally threw me off.

Anywho, here they are.

Also just for kicks here are the other two cupcakes I designed that didn't make the poster.

Earth Poster Update

I finally got some real inspiration for my Earth Day poster.

I was at the movies and the trailer for African Cats came on stating that if you go see the movie on Earth Day that the proceeds would benefit the Save the Savannah initiative as part of AWF: African Wildlife Foundation. It's basically a foundation that dedicates its time and efforts into preserving and expanding the dwindling areas of the African Savannah that are home to thousands of animals and plantlife.

I love watching Animal planet and when the Earth documentaries came out about a year ago I was totally engrossed so why not tie it into Smooches as a fundraiser of some sort.  I thought of the headline: "Who knew saving the Earth could be so Sweet?" or "Who knew saving the Savannah could be so Sweet?" Probably the latter. I've decided to incorporate a part of my logo by making african animal themed cupcake hats.  They'll look something like this:

For every dozen African themed cupcakes you buy in support of Earth Day Smooches will donate a portion of the proceeds to the African Wildlife Foundation in an effort to help expand and restore Africa's natural habitats. I'm getting excited about it now. Final product coming soon.

New Forever 21 Ads (What do you think?)

After a day of slaving away at my computer, I managed to churn out new collage ads for my Forever 21 campaign.  What do you think?

I'm trying to think, if possible, what other materials I could collage in there.  Right now, it's just the pictures and the textured background that I used from paper in my house. Just need to know if it's okay design wise....etc.

Portfolio Preparation

So in order to get the ball rolling on my portfolio I'm re-doing my ads from my 3000 class. They were supposed to be collage ads so whatever found imagery from newspapers, magazines, photos and the web.  The client I chose was forever 21 since I LOVE their clothes and am a frequent shopper.   My frist ads weren't so successful but now that I've gotten the hang of the whole cohesive unified ad thing i'm gonna give it another whirl. I've chosen the tagline Fun, Fierce, Flirty and then I'm gonna throw the logo on there which looks like this [ XXI Forever ].

Here are my old ads. They're horrible. Don't judge me.

Yeah definitely due for an upgrade

Earth Day

Now that the Earth Day Poster has been added to our to-do list I went to the internet in search of adds that inspired me.  Here is one I found.  It involves photography and right now that's the medium I'm leaning towards.  However, none of my portfolio really illustrates a lot of my illustration skills so I might utilize that in this project. Not so sure yet. Hmmmm....

Updates

I'm almost done with my ads. Right now it's a battle between Spiderman and the disney princesses but I think Spiderman is going to win simply because I like the contrast in color and because he'll as a bit mor masculinity to my ads. Also, the pie ad is proving to be a little difficult as I can't quite find a suitable pie to photograph.  My mom made one this past weekend and it's delicious but it was was photogenic as I needed it to be *womp womp*

It's a Photo Shoot! (*Aye*)

I went to Publix yesterday and had a full on photo shoot in their bakery. I wish I could have abducted their dummy cakes and gone to a real studio but I'm sure I would have gotten arrested or something.  I took most of these photos on *womp womp* my iphone which surprisingly took much better pics than my digital camera.   Photoshop will have to work wonders.

Luckily I contacted Elece (Smooches owner) and she's making two cakes this weekend --one for a birthday and one for a baby shower-- so I'll be able to take some photos of actual work and thus the ads will be a bit more authentic.  She is actually capable of the caliber of work shown in the photos but having her own stuff featured would be super.

Happy Birthday Stephanie, whoever you are.

Bakery Ads

Here are a cool series of Ads I found from Delicato Bakery.

And another less girly one I found from Butch Bakery

What I have so far

I probably won't be in class today because I'll be on a manhunt, armed with a camera trying to take pictures of wedding and birthday cakes but here is what I have accomplished in the way of ad set-up, typography, color, etc. I do plan on spicing up the background and giving it some kind of depth and texture. But I think I'm gonna have to wait until I get the photos first.

The gray boxes are where the cakes are supposed to go.  The text below the headline reads:

Still trying to figure out where to put all of my information as far as what side to align it on. What do you think?

Making Headway

Okay, so I finally got the wording down for what I wanted to do for my blogs.  I reached out to my twitter folks and did a "survey" on phrases that have to do w/ cake and baking, etc. they helped me to come up with the following phrases:

-I love you like a fat kid loves cake
-Let them eat cake
-Have your cake and eat it too
-The icing on the cake
-Sugar, spice and everything nice (which doesn't necessarily apply to cake but could)

I also decided to include a Pie in the mix (because the company I'm doing makes great homemade pies)and from there came up with the phrase "It's easy as pie".

So I chose the three phrases "Let them eat cake", "Have your cake and eat it too", and "It's easy as pie" to be coupled with questions that prompt for whatever particular confection is being advertised.

For instance a sample ad will read like this:

(insert wedding cake photo here)

Getting Married?
Have your cake and eat it too

(insert copy text here)

All of the other ads will follow suit with their own indiviual photos.  My problem now is trying to find someone who has sample cakes for me to take photos of.  I think illustrations won't do the ad justice.  If i can't find actual full scale cakes I might have to find representations of them or some sort of symbolism like a cake topper for the wedding cake or a slice of pie. We shall see.

Ad inspiration

So I think I finally have down what I want to do for my ads.  I want to couple memorable moments or moments that you associate eating cake or other confections with slogans or phrases that will help to push the particular food being pictured.

For instance, for a photo like this I would add the phrase: "Sugar, spice and everything nice."

Haven't quite figured out if I want to do hand drawn illustrations or try and take photos. I'll figure it out soon.

Final Stationery Board, Business Card and Logo

Just final copies of everything...for the record I guess.

*inside of the envelope is pink

*Lightbulb*

Was just sitting here and this came to me for a tagline

"Grandma's class with a little bit of sass"

I thought about this because the owner Smooches Sweets prides herself on being a chef that creates items that are similar to things "your grandma used to make" but she's still modern and innovative enough to create new things and put her own twist on things and make new treats for her customers per their request.

Yes? No? Maybe?

Cool Ads

As soon as I return to my humble abode I'll post my final stationery boards but for now here are some ads I thought were cool.  I chose them because of how well they execute the same message but show completely different images (as ads are supposed to).

Loooved the illustration on these. So intricate.

I'm a fan of Dali's  work so I thought these were super cool. Really ties into the company message.

Last semester in 3000 I struggled with tying a central theme together acorss three ads so I really want to make sure I do a good job of that this time around. I'm brainstorming on things that bakeshops encounter all the time, whether it be comical or professional and colors/characters or can carry over from frame to frame. Guess I need to start sketching.

Envelope Board

Here are my envelopes on what I believe will be my final envelope board.  I think might try to do a real life shot, but it just depends on how well the actual production/print of this goes. We shall see.

Business Card Dilemma

Now that I have this cool trendy pink line on my letterheads and envelope, does my business card need it too? Aaaaaah! Decisions, decisions!
